INEC fixes April 25 for Taraba governorship re-run
The Independent National Elecoral Commission INEC has fixed April 25 as the date for rerun of the governorship and state house of Assembly elections in Taraba state, North-East Nigeria.
The Head of Enlightenment and Publicity for Taraba INEC, Mr Fabian Reme, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital, said the decision was in line with INEC guidelines, after last Saturday’s election was declared inconclusive.
“We have concluded plans for the rerun on April 25 and the new date has been communicated to all the parties involve,” he stated.
He said the governorship rerun became necessary because of the irregularities encountered in the April 11 election in Taraba state.
INEC Returning Officer for the governorship election, Professor Mohammed Kyary had earlier stated that there had to be a supplementary election in the state because the total number of rejected votes was more than the difference between the PDP candidate, Darius Ishaku and Aisha Alhassan of the APC.
