The highly-rated 47-year-old is currently battling for Champions League qualification in Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne, where he has overseen significant progress every year since his appointment in 2009.
Newcastle has been widely touted as Galtier’s likeliest destination should he leave les Verts this summer but the Frenchman says he longs to be offered the job currently occupied by Rodgers at Anfield.
“If I had to choose my destination, I would go to Liverpool,” Galtier told Canal Football Club. “It’s my dream.”
Galtier’s comments are unlikely to be appreciated by Rodgers, who is under renewed pressure as a result of Liverpool’s faltering top-four challenge and limp FA Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Aston Villa.
Yet the Frenchman concedes he may remain in his homeland should the opportunity arise to succeed Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille – the club for whom he made more than 100 appearances as a player.
He added: “My name is circulating in Marseille, which is normal because I played there, I trained there and I have been assistant coach too, so we can easily imagine that Galtier takes the job of coach of OM.”
