Green Energy: NADDC, GCEGPAN champion adoption of CNG

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and Green Clean Energy and Gas Practitioners Association in Nigeria (GCEGPAN) are championing the use of Autogas Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for Nigerians.
The advocacy came on the heels of the graduation ceremony of trained CNG conversion technicians in Abuja on Monday, where the focus was on converting petrol vehicles to CNG-powered ones.
Mr Oluwemimo Osanipin, Director-General of NADDC, said the council aimed to create an enabling environment for CNG utilisation as an alternative transportation fuel and transition to green energy.

He said to achieve this; the council had secured approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to use the National Occupational Standard manual for training and converting PMS vehicles to CNG.
Osanipin said that the Council had organised an awareness campaign on the safety and benefits of using AutoGas (CNG) as an alternative fuel to petrol (PMS) and diesel.
He urged Nigerians to embrace CNG vehicles as a means of cheaper transportation.
Osanipin said this would alleviate the effect of fuel subsidy removal, mitigate environmental concerns and a means of market expansion for the Nigerian economy.
“It also creates more job opportunities and wealth creation which is in line with the President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda,” he said.
The National Chairman, GCEGPAN, Mr Emmanuel Great, encouraged Nigerians to shift focus to sustainable and affordable energy solutions.
Great said that Nigeria is blessed with abundance of sunlight and by investing in solar technology; Nigeria could provide clean, renewable green energy to remote areas and reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.
According to him, community-based solar projects can empower local economies and create jobs.
“It is high time we shift our focus to sustainable and affordable energy solutions that can uplift our communities and drive development,” he said.
He said that concrete steps must be taken to realise the vision of energy diversification by investing in infrastructure.
“The diversification of alternative energy sources presents a pathway to a brighter and more sustainable future for Nigeria.
“By embracing renewable energy, we can provide affordable and reliable electricity to our people, stimulate economic growth, and protect our environment,
“Transitioning away from fossil fuels is critical for a sustainable future,” he said.
