French Open: Argentine Renzo Olivo knocks out Tsonga

Unseeded Argentine Renzo Olivo, has created the first major upset in the men’s category in the French Open, knocking out  home favourite  Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5 6-4 6-7 6-4 in the first round.

Tsonga, who only last week won the Lyon Open on clay was ranked 12th in the tournament.

He was two games to one down and serving 4-5 on Tuesday, when the match was postponed.

But when play resumed  today,  the 25 year-old Argentine, seven years younger to Tsonga, proved to the crowd at  Philippe Chatrier that he was capable of taming Tsonga, who in 2013 and 2015 made the semi-final of the tournament..

NAN reports that Tsonga’s defeat by Renzo was more remarkable as the Argentine competes mainly on the ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Futures, both in singles and doubles .

He had created a similar upset before when in 2014 the Swedish Open in Bastad,  he made it through three rounds of qualiyfing to reach his first ATP tour main draw, where he reached the quarterfinals, defeating 2nd seed Tommy Robredo.
