Forum unveils 10-year development plan for Kano, Jigawa

The Kano-Jigawa Professionals Forum, led by former Minister of National Planning, Dr Shamsuddeen Usman, has unveiled a 10-year strategic development plan for Kano and Jigawa States.
The plan was unveiled on Sunday in Kano and presented to governorship candidates from Kano State, while those from Jigawa will receive the strategic plan on Tuesday.
The strategic development plan covered health, education, governance, social and economy, infrastructure and logistics, technology, legal and regulatory frameworks, media and communications.
“We have come up with this strategic report which we called a 10-year strategic plan for Kano and Jigawa states.
“It has 291 pages, we have copies of the strategic plan that we will present to all the governorship candidates in Kano. And, on Tuesday, we will do the same in Jigawa,” he said.
Usman said that the forum was formed in 2018 with the aim of mentoring youths in the two states to become well groomed professionals.
He said that all members of the forum were onetime national leaders of various professional associations.
The chairman assured that the forum would create a platform to enlighten candidates on the need to eschew politics of bitterness, acrimony and violence.
Usman urged all candidates in the forthcoming general elections to focus on issue-based campaigns, not on personality.
In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, represented by Alhaji Habibu Dandake, commended the forum for the initiative.
He also urged politicians to eschew politics of bitterness and not use thugs to perpetuate violence before, during and after the elections.
The Emir also urged the media and religious leaders to intensify efforts in enlightening the public on the importance of obtaining Permanent Voter Cards.
Also, Kano state Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Yusuf-Gawuna, commended the forum for developing the plan and urged all candidates to work with the forum for the development of the two states.
Yusuf-Gawuna, who is also the APC governorship candidate in Kano state, pleged to utilise the document for the development of the state, if elected governor in 2023.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the occasion was attended by all the governorship candidates across political parties in Kano state.
