The Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association, Ajinomoto Foods Nigeria Ltd Branch, has suspended its strike, planned to begin on May 17.
The suspension follows the willingness of the management to negotiate with the union.
The branch’s Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Idogen, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.
Idogen told NAN that the national body of the union had issued a letter addressed to him, calling for the suspension.
The letter, with the headline “Re: Seven-Day Ultimatum” was made available to NAN.
“Sequel to your management’s willingness to shift ground on their current offer, a meeting has been slated for Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. in your company premises.
“In line with the above, you are kindly directed to suspend whatever action that you have put in place to compel the management to accede to our demand.
“Thank you for your kind understanding.,” the letter read in part.
NAN reports that the union had, on May 8, issued a seven-day ultimatum to the company’s management over its alleged refusal to accede to the union’s demands.
The demands include improved remuneration and general welfare package for the workers.
