Expert seeks synergy between industries, research communities for greater Nigeria
Prof. Babatunde Rabiu, the Director and Chief Executive, Centre for Atmospheric Research, National Space Research and Development Agency (CAR-NASRDA), has advocated synergy between industries and research communities for a greater nation.
Rabiu, addressing newsmen on Wednesday during an oversight inspection of ongoing project at the University of Ibadan, said there was need to establish such important synergy toward building an industrialised nation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that CAR-NASRDA is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
NAN reports that the research laboratory under construction is a zonal intervention project of Sen. Ajayi Borrofice.
Rabiu said: “I think what we should aspire to do more is to establish a good synergy between industries and research communities. This is very important.
“Great nations and nations of the world that are aspiring to be great like South Africa or India have council for scientific and industrial research which they called CISR.
“Such a council can help this country to bring together the research communities, industries and handwork together.”
He said that the project, on completion, would be a national asset, rounding the number of centres in the agencies’ network to six.
According to him, Nigerians should expect improvement in research output, effectively aid industry and produce strong global database.
Rabiu said that the centre would also provide data to the global database and host scientists from all over the world.
He said the CAR-NASRDA enjoys the support of the Federal Government, adding that tertiary institutions in the country were as well enjoying similar research grants from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund).

“It is going to serve as a special laboratory with specialised equipment domiciled to monitor the atmosphere and space environment.
“It shall be able to provide data to the global database and host scientists from all over the world.
“One of the things we want to accomplish here in this centre has to do with research on pollution control and air quality monitoring,” Rabiu said.
Also, Mr Festus Ogundare, the Director, Fortified City Technologies Nigeria Ltd., said that the project under construction would be delivered to the agency by the end of October.
Ogundare, also the Project Manager, said that the initial N50 million projected for the construction had increased due to hike in prices of materials.
“We are looking at October ending by the special grace of God. The initial amount for this project is about N50 million, that is N49 million.
“But, along the way, we discovered that the money can’t take care of the place due to hike in prices of materials.
“We have about six laboratories and then, we have 16 rooms in the facility,” he said.
