Eduok, Izunna out of Niger match

Nigeria pair of Emem Eduok and Izunna Uzochukwu will not take part in Tuesday’s international friendly with Niger Republic at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The duo picked up injuries in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Tanzania on Saturday.

Supersports reported that, Izunna is suffering a muscle tear that will require him a three-week period to recover while Eduok, was informed came off worse with a knock on one of his legs after coming off the bench in the 0-0 draw with Tanzania.

“Izunna and Emem Eduok are definitely not going to take part in the match against Niger Republic as they suffered knocks against Tanzania. Izunna though played all 90 minutes in the game but he suffered a muscle problem and will be out for 21 days. Eduok, on the other hand, has a knock on the leg and will also not feature as a measure of precaution,” Super Eagles spokesman, Toyin Ibitoye, said to supersport.com.

However, FSV Mainz 05 defender, Leon Balogun, who missed the Tanzania game owing to an ankle injury has left the Nigerian camp for his base in Germany, as he is also ruled out of the international friendly match on Tuesday.

Nigeria head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has handed late calls to midfielders, Paul Onobi of Sunshine Stars and Yaro Bature of Nasarawa United, for the game against Niger’s Mena.

“Leon has left the team and has returned to his base in Germany. Sunshine Stars midfielder, Paul Onobi and Yaro Bature of Nasarawa United have joined camp after the coach ,” Ibitoye confirmed to supersport.com.

The warm-up match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Mena of Niger Republic is live on SuperSport 3 and 9 as well as on Select from 4.30pm CAT.
