Dangote gives reasons for shift in date for Petrol production — Aliko Dangote

Aliko Dangote, the President and CEO of Dangote Refinery has given reasons for the shift in the commencement of petrol production from June to mid-July.

The announcement about the new production date at the $20 billion facility in Lagos was confirmed by Aliko Dangote during a meeting with journalists on Monday. Dangote explained that the rescheduling of the date was a result of a minor delay, leading to the transition from the initially planned June to the middle of July.

He said, “We had a bit of delay, but PMS will start coming out by 10 to 15 of July. But then we want to keep it in tank to make sure that it settles. So by third week of July, we’ll be able coming out to take it into the market,”

BRANDPOWER recalls that Dangote, while speaking at the recent Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, said his refinery would end the importation of petrol into Nigeria.

“Right now, Nigeria has no cause to import anything apart from gasoline and by sometime in June, within the next four or five weeks, Nigeria shouldn’t import anything like gasoline; not one drop of a liter,” he declared

In April, the refinery commenced the supply of diesel and aviation fuel, months after it was commissioned in May last year.

The refinery had lamented the insufficient supply of crude oil by International oil companies in Nigeria.

“The NNPC is doing its best, but some of the IOCs, are struggling to give us crude. Everybody is used to exporting, and nobody wants to stop,” Dangote told CNN recently.

Announcing the commencement of production, the company said the refinery had received six million barrels of crude oil at its two SPMs 25 kilometres from the shore.

The first crude deliverywas done on 12 December 2023, and the sixth cargo was delivered on 8 January.

The company made a further move towards the commencement of the production of refined petroleum products with the receipt of an additional one million barrels of bonny light crude supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC Ltd).

Earlier in April, the company commenced supplying petroleum products to the local market.
