A 40-foot container fell off and killed a woman inside her car at the Lagos end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday.

Her driver, however, survived the accident unhurt, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has stated.

Its Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Mr Taofiq Adebayo, stated that the driver of the articulated truck carrying the container and his assistant fled the scene as soon as the accident occurred.

The woman was inside her car when the fully loaded 40ft Mack articulated truck fell on it, leading to her instant death, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said.

“A fully loaded 40fts Mack articulated truck today fell on a Nissan Car (ABJ 692 BG) and instantly killed a woman at the rear of the car while the car driver survived unhurt with support by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Officials by N.N.P.C inward Estate, Alapere, Lagos,” the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department Adebayo Taofiq said in a statement.

“Preliminary investigation showed that the fleeing truck driver was driving on high speed when he experienced brake failure and lost control of the vehicle.

“The truck rammed into the car and spilled the container on top of it.

“LASTMA already handed the evacuated corpse of the woman to the police,’’ Adebayo stated.

LASTMA officers, other first responders, and passers-by were involved in the rescue operations.
