Prof. Jeffrey Barminas, the Director-General, National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria, says chemical technology is crucial in generating economic and societal benefits to Nigeria.
Barminas stated this at the ongoing Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) expo in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said the strength and visibility in the development of indigenous chemical technology would benefit the nation economically.
“Our strength and visibility in the development of indigenous technologies in the chemical sector is an asset that will create jobs and import substitution.

“It would also attract significant inward investment in areas such as agro-processing, light manufacturing, energy, environment, health, among others,” he said
According to him, the STI expo is an investors’ forum that provides discussion on how best to deliver sustainable long-term growth for the chemical industry in the country.
Barminas said the institute was mandated to develop new strategies for designing, producing and using safer chemicals to minimize risks and prevent pollution.
