Barcelona have a long road to go before they can celebrate their performances in 2014-15, according to star forward Lionel Messi.
The Argentine scored a sublime curled strike from the edge of the box on Wednesday as Luis Enrique’s men ran out 4-0 winners over Almeria to ensure they stayed four points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
Messi has played a huge part in Barca’s nine game winning streak – they have only failed to win once since the first game of 2015 – but he is refusing to get carried away with their four-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga.
“We won against Almeria, but there is still a long way to go,” the 27-year-old, wrote on his official Facebook page. “We have to keep fighting in every match.”
Next up for Barca is an extremely testing visit to Sevilla on Saturday, with Unai Emery’s men battling for a Champions League spot as they sit behind fourth-placed Valencia in La Liga on goal difference.
On Wednesday Barca will be aiming to avoid a repeat of their defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage earlier in 2014-15 when they travel to Parc des Princes for Wednesday’s quarter-final first leg.
