The Association of Music, Film Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (AMFPMN), on Monday, urged the Gov. Charles Soludo led-administration to support the fight against piracy in Anambra.
Chief Uzoma Obuoha, Chairman, Board of Trustees, AMFPMN, made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Onitsha.
Obuoha said that the association had battled piracy for over 24 years without success.
“Pirated products are worse than armed robbery. Overseas, you cannot copy or pirate without permission, but here they do not see it as a crime.
“We have been battling this crime for over 24 years without success, which is why we are pleading with Gov. Soludo, to come to our rescue by supporting this fight against piracy.
“The entertainment industry is the highest employer of labour and we are hoping that Soludo, would assist us to stop piracy, as well as create an enabling environment for our members and young talents to succeed,” he said.
Obuoha lamented that the introduction of cable television network was a huge challenge to the film industry.

“The introduction of cable television network is another source of worry to us, because people now watch cable instead of going to shops and markets to buy or rent films/ plates.
“To worsen the situation, our colleagues in the western world have come up with ‘MP3virus’, because they feel our music is better than theirs.
“Nigerian artists/musicians have better music than the European musicians, so, they created what is called an MP3virus, which is faking our music with the aim of frustrating us.
“This creation of the virus has also resulted in some of our members being unemployed, ” he said.
Obuoha said the association was ready to work with the state government to salvage the entertainment industry in the state.
He also urged the youths to tap into the opportunities in the entertainment industry, to develop their talents, rather than engage in drugs and other vices.
