2022 education, health budget performance in Enugu, massive, impressive- Gov. Ugwuanyi

Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State says that the 2022 budget performance under the education and health sectors was massive and impressive.

Ugwuanyi made the commendation during the presentation of budget estimate for 2023 fiscal year to the Enugu State House of Assembly on Thursday in Enugu

The governor, who lauded his administration’s performances in the  sectors, said the infrastructural development of his administration cut across all the tertiary institutions in the state.

This, he said, include the establishment of the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) Igbo-Eno, Enugu with facilities put in place in readiness for the take-off of academic activities in the medical university.

Ugwuanyi said the admission had been opened for 2022/2023. academic year, adding that the university is currently processing over 5,000 applications for academic and non-academic staff.

Ugwuanyi listed other institutions as Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Institute Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu State College of Education Technical (ESCET) and others.

According to the governor, the cumulative construction and reconstruction of about 1,000 classroom blocks, 11 water boreholes, provision of 68,875 sets of plastic locker/chair, among other educational facilities in some of the secondary schools in the state.

He said his administration sustained funding of foreign and local scholarships in favour of indigenes of the state as 22 of them are currently studying medical and information technology courses in University of Mewar, India.

“200 students in different higher institutions of learning and 42 students at various secondary schools within the country enjoyed our scholarship programmes.

“We have secured fully funded postgraduate scholarships for 40 Enugu State students to study in various parts of Europe, America, Australia and Asia through the Mentorship Master class of Enugu State Scholarship Scheme,” Ugwuanyi said.

He added that Loans Board, valued at over N3 billion in addition to the N1 million each provided to the 40 students by his administration in 2022.

On health, Ugwuanyi said his administration had upgraded Accident and Emergency building of ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu to a two-storey building, furnished and put to use.

He said that equipment such as Laparoscopic machine, Cardiotocography and Ultrasound (CTG & USS) machines and Feto-maternal patient monitor, among others were procured to enhance the capacity of the hospital in diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and antenatal care.

He stressed that there were ongoing construction of three additional Model Type III Primary Healthcare Centres in Adani, Oduma and Agbogugu in Uzo-Uwani, Aninri and Awgu LGAs respectively.

“This is in addition to the seven of them recently built and equipped by my administration to boost the delivery of primary healthcare services across the state.

“The construction, landscaping and equipping of amenity facility at Enugu-Ezike General Hospital, Ogrute, Igbo-Eze North LGA , which is almost completed,” he said.
